Joshua Olsen is a Public Service Assistant with the Deming Library, and previously worked as  a cashier and morning baker at our local food co-op, and as a landscape laborer tending to lawns and gardens. His title with the library is a PSA with a cultural focus, a position geared towards providing better library service to the Nooksack Indian Tribe Community in Deming, Whatcom County, Washington.

Joshua is an enrolled member of the Nooksack tribe, and spends a lot of his time throughout the year on projects to do with subsistence and commercial fishing for salmon, crab, prawns, clams, halibut and trout. That usually means repairing boat motors, fiber-glassing and painting, and mechanical maintenance on my old truck. He is a participant in the annual tribal canoe journey, a gathering of indigenous tribes from Alaska to California, as well as indigenous people from New Zealand, Japan, Greenland, and most recently folks from Papua New Guinea.
